From the mail bag

A member emailed the other day to comment on one of our regular’s comment. He said he wished he had a card so that he could be eligible for an open assistant’s position. It seems to us that he is missing the point of union membership. The union is there to protect the rights of the worker from management and sometimes even ourselves. What does it say for the Local when members are cutting there own deals with producers and not considering the long-range effects of their decisions? Why should anybody deal with a collective group when they can erode the conditions by co-opting an individual? All deals should be to exceed the Collective Bargaining Agreement, not diminish it. The easiest way for success at the bargaining table is for your representatives be able to really represent all of our members and regulars, not just those who don’t have pull.

All heads of departments and their asst.'s sign and agree to their contracts without any regard to the master contract the union has with the employer. The opera heads are the worsts of the bunch , they dont give a shit as long as they get theirs. They also always sign for a higher percentage of a raise then the members get , its not fair or right , the new e board should make them adhere to the master contract and never sign before the master contract is signed. Also they should be made to provide copies of their personal contracts to the union. Its time that they remember they are part of this local , otherwise they all can take a hike.

The anonymous comment remains because it is the opinion of one of our members, and though it is lacking some facts and uses profanity, it shall remain because there is censorship and there is lively discussion. We choose lively discussion. Regarding personal service contracts and collective bargaining agreements, the PSA can never supercede the CBA.

yeah, the opera heads are the worst. Hawkins sells out every day. how ridiculously low an hourly wage do you think he works for? $10-- maybe $8 an hour he would do better off working for Mike Eggers. Lets not forget the contract assistants. Jose' probably just signed away almost all the hard fought working conditions, and all for $8-10 an hour.
no, really, what do you mean. back up your stupid ranting with some facts, or examples.
if all heads and assistants are selling us out then pull their cards. if they are management then they can't be union members.
oh, wait that probably won't work, most of the E-board are requested heads or assistants.
Tom Sprague(symphony)
Barry Thomas(ballet)
Kevin VanOrden(house man)
Cory Grant(symphony/opera)
Brandon Dishmukes(opera)
even Butch Lang(former opera request-o) makes the call as to whether someone can be requested(has he ever said no?)
The only real Union heads and assistants are at TUTS, where they work straight off the CBA.

FLAME CONTINUES!
no, wait nevermind, TUTS is full of request-o's too. all of them. not a single one of them got a (4 hour)call from Butch, showed up on the job and discovered they were the head propman. Those bastards have probably all been talking behind our backs too, discussing who was the better worker, who had a crappy attitude, and who was so FUCKED UP that they might have drank a cup-o-handcleaner if one had been offered to them. they probably plan to make their next set of requests based on those criteria, and not seniority, like it should be, right!

hey evil santa
You're a punk.
To defile the integrity of Donnie and Doug Kornegay is uncalled for, and it shows your level of maturity. Maybe you don't deserve a ballot. It would mean that you would have to stop digging for dinner and pull your finger out of
your nose so you could make an x on a piece of paper. Oh, my bad, I forgot that making an x would be your signature.

ya know, it does seem odd that when the American Arbitration Assn. did our election the people who screamed the loudest about what an overly expensive botched job they did would be made judge of elections.
