Membership and Training

Got this photo through by way of three concerned members, who forwarded it and then re- forwarded it to our email.
Glad to see some of our junior members taking advantage of the opportunities to learn new skills.
This is the way we keep strong in our jurisdiction.

Would you believe that I had a senior member, who is a candidate for Vice President of this local, ask me why we were training Jason to take our board op jobs! I am the chair of the EDUCATION committee!!!

I believe that for our Union to be strong, we have to stop this "If he learns I lose" mentality. If he learns we all win!

Kudos to Teri and Adam for helping introduce Jason to the Obsession. Next up EOS!!! Where is my Ginko Biloba?!?!?

We need standardized training for everyone, not the select few.

When was this class held?

First standardized training for everyone in the local is not possible for the subject presented. A person would need to have some knowledge and interest in the subject. Want to know something about sound or lighting then hang around the sound and lighting guy's! If you were sincerely interested in learning about the subject presented you would have been aware of the class. Be proactive in your education and ask questions. If your sitting on your ass waiting for a memo you will remain uninformed.

Adam,

I am not aware of any classes for idiots but you definitely should be the head instructor! When is the Class?

I can make time for you when ever you want to step on out of that closet your hiding in.

Most of the knowledge I have accumulated over the last 30 plus years has been by making myself available to be taught by willing teachers. If I had waited for a class to teach me what I wanted to learn, I might not have known enough to be interested in taking classes. Any and all attempts at improving one's skills should be congratulated and not demeaned.

look, Adam's an angry little bitch.
if you want to learn the teachers are there. Albert, Barry and Recuk will all happily teach you anything you want to know, but you have to be patient and stick to it. you don't really think they can drop what they are doing at that moment and teach you everything the second you show a little interest. they have jobs too.there's more people out there who would help too. you just have to ask questions and pay attention.
and don't take Adam's class, unless you want to be an angry little bitch

They're two types people, those who make things happen and those who wait for things to happen.I'm sure that If you really wanted learn how to be a board op.,spot op.,or sound, etc you would have taken the time to learn a new craft. That's what makes this country great,That if you really want to better your self you can but It takes initiative.(unless you been fired from every employer)

All I see is jealousy and anger here.
If you want better for yourself, stop blaming the other guy and take responsibility for yourself. There are frequent oppotunities out there, it is up to you to seize one and take advantage of it

I want more money, and the only way I will get that is for all hands to be better qualified, every unqualified hand is money out of my pocket. The days of the job security secerecy stuff are done.

We keep few secrets up here in the world of audio. I have answered every question ever asked of me. I believe in the last five years at our local the total is now 4 or 5. Honestly guy's unless you plan on starting over as an intern your not going to be mixing the next big tour anytime soon. The odds of you mastering the skills necessary to win at Indy are better. Heck I wish I had finished Medical School but I didn't and the only way I could do it now would be to chuck it all out the window and start over with nothing. Something to chew on......
